As most of our itineraries feature places requiring 4×4 vehicles, most of the vehicles rented out are capable 4x4s, although we are able to arrange normal sedan type vehicle rental in places such as Cape Town, which are often added on to a self-drive safari.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is fast replacing the Land Rover Defender as the rental vehicle of choice in southern Africa, and these reliable 4x4s have powerful diesel engines and good ground clearance as well as all the equipment you need if you are using them for a camping itinerary. Toyota also offer the Hilux, which is a cheaper option with a smaller engine but also very capable off-road.
Camping equipped vehicles either take the form of the classic rooftop tent setup – where the tent is stored on the roofrack and folded out from the top of the vehicle – or the pop-up camper setup, which is quicker and more convenient to set up. These campers are usually set up for 2 people, but some can accommodate a small family as well.
